Vice Chancellor's Message
University of Cochin was established as per the Cochin University Act 1971. The University was restructured and renamed as the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in February 1986. Considering the technical importance of the University and its academic credibility, there was a proposal from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India to upgrade the University as a national institution in the name of Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST). The proposal is still under the consideration of MHRD. Based on the academic and research status, the University has the capability to be considered as an academic institution with national importance. In the budget speech of 2012-13 the Government of Kerala has decided to start a Centre for Budget Studies at CUSAT. Based on this decision of the Government, the University Syndicate resolved to start the Centre and chose to name it the K.M. Mani Centre for Budget Studies (KMMCBS). I am very much happy to say that the K. M. Mani Centre for Budget Studies (KMMCBS) is functioning as a Research Centre under CUSAT to focus in the areas of Public Finance, the Budget and Budget Making. Through this Centre, our University is taking part the budget formulation of the State Government and be able to provide more research inputs to the academic community and to the general public in future.
